Serving up Japaribbean Cuisine, The Lions Den epitomizes the mosaic that permeates the Canadian landscape. Where else in the world can you find fine Caribbean cuisine meld with Japanese flavors amidst standard breakfast items served all day long?

Located on 15th and Fraser, The Lions Den can be found kitty corner from The Bible Store behind a row of trees sharing the block with a wide range of establishments including a sushi store and a European bakery.

Breakfast at The Lions Den averaged around $7 per person. The menu was full of standard breakfast classics that included:

  • 3 layer grilled cheese sandwiches
  • Eggs any style served with potatoes, sausage, ham or bacon
  • Strawberry topped waffles
  • Brown and white toast
  • What looked like home made jams
  • and finally great coffee

1/2 Loaf of Triangle Bread

The service was chilled, the staff super friendly. The coffee was great and the food was for the most part excellent. The only complaint I heard was from someone having wished they selected the jamaican patty in favor of the scrambled eggs - something about how scrambled eggs are only best when they come from a breakfast buffet.

The Lions Den is the kind of place that could keep you occupied for well after the food has been digested. The outdoor street patio is perfect for people watching and on our sunny day we had a tough time pulling ourselves from our seats. Inside things get even more interesting. The colors are intense and a life-sized stuff Lion is hoisted up high on the wall. The only thing that I felt was missing were hammocks!

i’d have to second the 5 toast rating. the service, while a tad slow, was definitely friendly and pleasant, giving our experience that ‘Japaribbean’ feel.

the coffee was great, the $4.27 breakfast was… well, $4.27 and decent. i ordered my eggs scrambled with ham, but i should have ordered over easy with bacon. my fault, not theirs - i just wasn’t feeling the scrambled eggs after i saw everyone else’s “over easy” eggs.

yep - 5 toasts for me too. sitting under the trees was so nice i didn’t even mind the wait and the forgotten coffee order. i especially didn’t mind when my grilled cheese arrived and my head got blown off.

I too had the scrambled eggs, but I made the special request of adding cheese to them. The cheese completely made the scrambled eggs, adding just the right amount of sharpness. I couldn’t get Ana Lucia Cortez out of my head whenever our waitress came ’round. I really enjoyed the thick bacon slices.
