The Great Escape
What is it with Vancouver and its lack of Sunday brunch diners. It seems like the idea of brunch only exists within this city from Monday to Saturday. A perfect example would be the winner of the last Ghettobreakfastclub.com poll: Darryl’s Coffee and Native Art Shop. Imagine our surprise when we found Darryl’s closed on a rainy Sunday.
Thankfully regular Ghettobreakfastclub.com member Mr. F to the double E was in attendance. Reading the sour disappointment on our faces, F to the double E suggested a quick walk around the corner to the Bosman’s Motor Inn for a visit to the 9th Avenue Grill on Howe.
Being greeted by a pool that had not been used for many a year certainly did not help alleviate my doubts about visiting a diner attached to a hotel. In fact, as we were seated I worried that we could have found another variant of the famous Smile Restaurant. Instead, we found quite the opposite!
The food was fantastic, the service impeccable. We loved listening to the waitress run through the menu items by heart. She didn’t require any paper to track our various customizations on the standard menu items. We were extremely impressed when our food arrived intact and as ordered - all within a reasonable amount of time. Throughout the entire brunch, our glasses of water and coffee (pretty decent) were never left empty. This waitress was on fire - she must have been under 21 and was already a professional!
Prices were a little higher than norm. On average look to spend $10 for your breakfast (including coffee). Breakfasts included:
- 3-cheese Grilled Cheese
- 2 eggs with toast, home fries, sausage, ham or bacon
- Benny’s
- and more…
The best part of the restaurant however had to be the beach front mural. The 9th Avenue Grill on Howe provided a great escape from the grey wet dreary weather outside.
The combination of a great crowd, an excellent waitress, wicked-awesome food and fantastic decor all help give the 9th Avenue Grill on Howe our highest rating yet:

I have nothing but positive things to say about the 9th Avenue Grill On Howe. I almost got a room at the Bosman’s Motor Hotel so I could go for breakfast the next morning…
